Intent
The intent of our Music curriculum is for it to be a fully inclusive subject which ensures our children have high exposure to music and all that it encompasses, having many opportunities to perform their work in addition to a wide variety of music experiences through visiting theatres and concerts. They will be encouraged to develop a love of music and their skills as musicians through a creative and engaging curriculum supported by the Charanga scheme of work and the Accent music project which focuses on Gospel and Drumming. The children will listen critically to, and engage in, a variety of music which they are all able to access through fully adaptive teaching of these lessons. They will be encouraged to explore their own thoughts and feelings in response to music from a variety of genres and musical eras. Alongside the teaching of knowledge, skills and understanding within the subject, it is our aim to promote positive mental health and well-being in all pupils through the development of the listening and appraising section of the lessons. We believe that the children need to have exposure and experience of a wide variety of the arts to help them to have a richer and fuller life and to prepare them for possible careers and futures involving Music.
